Types of Volunteer Roles at Father Bill’s & MainSpring
Here are some examples of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups:
Individual Volunteers:
Administrative/Clerical: filing, sorting donations, computer data entry, bed registration.
Direct Care Staff: answer phones, photocopy, fax and assist staff. A Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check is required to work directly with shelter guests.
In-Kind Donations Facilitator: greet donors, help complete in-kind forms, sort, create inventories and distribute items.
Kitchen Support: Kitchen volunteers provide, prepare and serve meals for emergency shelter guests.
Resource Room(s): Help emergency shelter guests use computers for study, research, prepare resumes and conduct job searches (evening assignment).
The Table: prepare and serve lunch at this community lunch program in Brockton between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (must be 16 years old).
The Farm at Stonehill College: prepare new vegetable beds, secure biodegradable plastic for new seedlings, lay fresh compost on crops and harvest product. Fresh produce is then delivered to The Table at MainSpring House, Brockton.
Groups: participate in larger scale projects such as painting, landscaping, heavy cleaning of common areas and other capital improvements at FBMS shelters and properties.
